CAKE SMASH PREP GUIDE

How to prepare: 

• Feed baby – Ensure baby is well fed at least 1-1.5 hrs before the shoot.  A hungry baby = a cranky baby. 
• Sugar test – Some babies have never had sugar or cake prior to the shoot, so it helps to practice with a cupcake a day or two before the shoot.
• Manicure/Pedicure – Since your hands and feet may show in your photos, it’s always a good idea to get a manicure/pedicure a few days before your shoot.  If you don’t plan on having polish, make sure any old polish is removed before your shoot.
• Jewelry – Unless there is sentimental value, please remove bulky jewelry and watches
• Steam/Iron – If you or your partner is planning to wear a dress shirt or anything that may wrinkle, try to iron/steam in advance and bring in a garment bag.

What to bring  . . .

• Outfit for family photos – While I do provide all outfits, some clients like to bring their own outfir for their baby for family photos.  
• Shoes – For family shots, I usually only take half body portraits.  However, sometimes, clients wear outfits that they want full body shots with and if that’s the case, please bring appropriate footwear.  If you do plan on wearing shoes for some of your shots (ie: high heels), let me know in advance so I can plan the shoot accordingly.  Please ensure your partner has appropriate footwear as well.
• Snacks – While I do provide water and some snacks, feel free to pack snacks for your baby (milk & dry snacks).  Sometimes the dry snacks can be quite useful during the cake smash to put on to the cake to entice babies who refuse to touch the cake.
• Optional – favourite toy/stuffy, bubble bath soap or rubber duckies (for the bath splash after the cake smash).

What to expect:

• The session may be approximately 90 mins long, but it does depend on how baby is doing during the shoot.
• There is a minimum of three outfit changes – one for the baby-only portrait, one that you can provide for the family portraits, and one outfit for the cake smash
• Editing – After the session is complete, about a week later, you will have the opportunity to view the unedited images and choose your favourite images to be edited.  Completed edits will be sent to you in two weeks.
