Family portraits are a very important part of every newborn session.  Mamas, don’t worry if you don’t feel up to taking photos soon after you’ve had baby!  Your body has undergone so many changes! Add a brand newborn to the mix and that is enough to make most mamas feel tired and haggard. I fully understand this, and hence it is why my studio provides hair and makeup for mamas for family portraits and full access to our postpartum gowns.

The goal for every family portrait is to emphasize connection.  With every click of the camera, we are focused on telling a beautiful love story and capturing the timeless bond between parents and their newborn baby. Like newborn poses, we have many different ways that we pose our parents.  Below, I will go through the various types of shots we do for family portraits.

Family Pose #1:  Family portraits with Parents and their Newborn

From the family poses below, you will notice that we offer both formal poses and natural poses.  For formal poses, we take a picture of new parents against a backdrop colour of their choice – white, grey, cream, etc and guide you through a variety of different poses together.  For the natural poses, we have a beautiful window with plenty of natural light to provide you with a more lifestyle image of your family.

Family Pose #2: Family portraits with an Older Sibling

For posing a family of four, I will emphasize connection by making sure each family members hands/arms are linked.

Family Pose #6:  Newborn with Older Sibling

A family pose with a newborn and a sibling is probably the easiest one to get.  The older sibling generally loves to get in on the action which makes it great for capturing beautiful smiles!   It’s hard not to gush at the proud older siblings and their nurturing instincts!

Family Pose #7:  Newborn Photography Poses with Pets!!

Of course, we cannot forget the furry members of our family!  We welcome all pets in the studio! Since baby safety is our utmost priority, we will often take a shot of baby and the pet separately in our setup and then later photoshop the two images together.
